B MINE

Ah, the letter B. Both a lovely musical note and the second letter in the Latin alphabet. The letter B means house, deriving from it's first appearance in the Egyptian hieroglyphs symbolizing the floorplan of a house (see above symbol). In the Hebrew Alphabet, B's counterpart Beth represents the letter 2 and in gematria can symbolize 2, 2000 and 20,000.

Our favorite B however, is not a linguisitc manifestation but a Lagerfeld-istic creation. The B.Bag. And so ladies, allow us to share the joys of literacy with you.

NOT JUST FOR HIPPIES . . .

Tie-dye: it's come a long way since your junior high school best friend convinced you to wrap rubber bands around your favorite t-shirts and soak them in Kool-Aid to look just like her older sister, who had dropped out of high school to sell grilled cheese sandwiches in Arena parking lots of Grateful Dead shows.

Actually, tie-dying is a process that predates the psychadelic 60s by hundreds of years. The earliest survivng tie-dyed textiles are from Peru and date from approximately 500-800 AD. The japanese dying process of Shibori elevates the form to high-art and has been practiced since the 8th century. Shibori includes an elaborate process of stitching elaborate patterns and then gathering the stitching or binding the fabric around a core of rope or wood in order to create patterns of undyed fabirc against intricate dyeing design schemes.

All this to say that tye-dye has a long history of equisite craftsmanship and design well beyond the contemporary notion of the traditional garb of a Burning Man attending back-to-the-lander. Take for example, this tie-dyed Fendi large baguette tote from the Spring 2008 collection. Large lacing detailing draws on the bohemian ideal often associated with tye-die but the soft and supple leather and sophisticated take on a sorbet color palette make this handbag more bling than Beatnik.

***Fendi Spring 2008 Large Tie-dyed Baguette Bag. In next-to-new condition! Priced at $1250. Typically, the large baguettes with the lacing retail from $2100-$2500.

WE GOT SCOOPED--WTF?

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, . . . so we got in a truckload of Fendi baguette bags, and before we could shoot the suckers, we got SCOOPED by none other than LA's favorite It Gal, Writer, Style Maker and Taste Dictator: Rose Apodaca. Oh well, it's an honor and a privilege to grace the webpages of this sassy semiotician and all-around-pop-culture-maven's blog. Check her out: http://www.uber.com/roseapodaca. She scribes about the D2 Fendi's on September 27, 2007.

So, sorry we've been a little slow on the uptake (we've been so busy--we started grad school, we're dating, and driving Christos crazy) but without further adieu, we're here to present the Fendi baguettes in all their glory! The baguette made it's resounding debut in 1997 and the following posts celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the Italian houses significant accessories contribution. The baguette, named for its ease in carry underneath the crook of the arm--like a baguette, is a must for any style girl with both a little class and a little flash!

Lots of Love,

The d2 Gang

Nobody but nobody has done more for the Fendi baguette than our favorite 4 gal pals: Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha. And frankly, WE CAN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE! We're SATC junkies. Even now we're scratching for a fix. We've been in withdrawal for years, we need rehab, we need Petrovsky . . . ah, will the sweet torture never end? Crafted with orange snakeskin strapping and signature silver metal FF snap clasp closure, this baby is replete with SATC sassafrass! Priced at $850 and in mint condition! Fendi Deco Beaded Baguette Handbag

First, let's talk Fendi. A little background into the Italian megabrand, if you will. Fendi began in 1918, when Adele Casagrande opened a leather shop in Via del Plebiscito in Central Rome. She then married Edoardo Fendi in 1925 and together, the lovebirds decided to change the name of the biz to Fendi. Their 5 daughters (the Fendi's were verrrrrry busy apparently and excellent multi-taskers if you ask me) would later come on board the Fendi ship, and the sisters were instrumental in hiring a young german upstart in 1965, named Karl Lagerfeld, to helm the brand. Since its conception, Fendi has always been associated with luxury and this bag beautifully epitomizes their elegant with a little somethin' extra style. Crafted with super sparkle-y white beads, this heavenly handbag also features black pony fur strapping and deco beaded FF snap clasp closure. In mint condition and priced at $750. For further information, or to purchase, please contact: thegang@decadestwo.com

Fendi Embroidered Baguette Handbag

The Iconic Fendi FF logo--where does it come from? Let's discuss. In 1965, Lagerfeld and the Fendi's took a trip down the isle together and the designer and the house became one. One the marriage was set in stone, Lagerfeld immediately created the logo, which would go onto become a symbol for wealth and status. Here's one of our fave FF styles--as a baguette bag crafted with the FF Zucca jacquard, accented with beading, FF snap front closure and green snakeskin strapping. In mint condition and available for $800! For further information or to purchase , please contact: thegang@decadestwo.com

Our favorite fall '07 trend is being served up Global Priority. Fendi Pink Pailette Baguette Handbag

Did you guys know that the first time the word pink was used to describe a color was in the 17th century to describe the light red flowering plants in the genus Dianthus? Well, now you know. Pink is one of our very favorite colors. This baguette bag is crafted with pailette sequins are showcased in a Nadeshiko pink--called nadeshiko-iro in Japanese--which is named after the carnation flower. Like a flower, you'll be blossoming at the ball with this baguette bag whose accent strapping is fabricated in pink snakeskin. Do we need to make a "Pretty-In-Pink" witty epithet here? We will if you want us to . . . Priced at $650 and in gently worn condition! For further information or to purchase, please contact: thegang@decadestwo.com

Fendi Denim Daisy Baguette Handbag

Fendi Zucca Baguette Tote Handbag

Zucca--let's discuss. The word zucca is Italian for pumpkin (just in time for Halloween) or squash. My favorite squash is Zucchini blossoms, fyi. Zucca is also the name of an Italian aperatif whose base ingredient is Rhubarb combined with cardamom seeds and other curative herbs. After 10 days of mellowing out, thepotion is strained and bottled. Zucca has a mild bittersweet taste and is fairly light with only 16% volume of alcohol. Nearly impossible to find in the states as it is not commerically distributed in the US, Zucca is the featured cocktail in the Zucca bar in the Galleria at the Piazza del Duomo in Milan. This bar is also the site where Gaspere Campari introduced his alcoholic infusion of herbs in the 1860s. Lastly, Zucca is the name of the verrrry famous FF logo jaquard of Fendi. I'm not sure what it has to do with drinking (or squash for that matter) but I do know that I'd defintely carry this baby for cocktails with the girls. Preferably, in Milan. Accented with smooth brown leather strapping, this baby is a classic, fo' sho'. Priced at D2 for $450 and in mint condition! Fendi Beaded Baguette Handbag

Did you guys know that a pair of beads made from the Nassarius shells, circa 100,000 years ago, are thought to be the first known examples of jewelry? We didn't either but we know jewelry and we love beading--especially when the detailing finds it's way onto our favorite style of handbag! So here ya go: a beaded baguette bag with a tote style body that goes on and on 'til the break of dawn! In mint condition and priced at $850! For further information or to purchase, please contact: thegang@decadestwo.com

Fendi Black Baguette Handbag

In our opinion, this baby is like the little black dress of handbags. As fabulous as it is functional, this Fendi baguette tote is crafted with a larger body, so that you can just slide everything off the dressing table top into the bag, and presto chango, you're a gal with her goods on the go . . . In mint condition and priced at $450! For futher information or to purchase, please contact: thegang@decadestwo.com
