IN THE MIX: RICK OWENS JACKET BLENDS OUR FAVE FALL TRENDS

We have loved Rick Owens since the dawn of time. Ok, that might be an exaggeration and to be frank, we certainly don't be want to date ourselves as prehistoric. However, we've been fanatical about Owen's decon jackets since the turn of the century. This jazzy little in particular represents everything we adore about Owen's fab futuristic tailoring with a biker babe feel that somehow also manages to reference the forties AND sports pleated detailing, which in addition to knocking your socks off and taking you back to the 80s, is pretty touch to manipulate on . . . oh, eelskin. It's all that and a bag of chips!
Trend Tally: 5 (deconstuction junction, moto moxie, 40s and fabulous, New Wave, Rocking le Ruche)
In a US size 6, in mint condition and priced at $2,500.

We had such a blast at our Rachel's-rocks-rock-D2 extravagnaza and we know some of you did too. What made the event even more memorable was the fact that the sale of Rachel's gems and jewels went to benefit the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. We love it when fashion and philanthropy meet!!!!!
We have just a few pieces from the Rachel Zoe jewelry collection sale left in the store and we wanted to post them for you ladies who also saw the show (how gorg-ee-yus was Christos Garkinos?!?!?!?!?) and wanted to get yourhands on fashion's favorite style-phile's fixings.

D2 ZOETROPE: D2 Cameo On the Next Rachel Zoe Project

Synchronize your watches people: next week Christos Garkinos and the Decadestwo Gang light up the little screen when we appear on (are you sitting down?) The Rachel Zoe Project. Gasp. Hand to Head. We die.

Seriously, we lovedy-dove Rachel and we're so thrilled to appear on season 2 of her show, which documents the dramedy of Zoe and her hi-LAR-ious team as they attempt to navigate the treacherous sartorial waters of styling shoots, clothing celebs and building the Rachel Zoe brand.

We're already hanging on the edge of our seats from last's episode, a cliff-hanger that left viewers wondering if Rachel would pull through an onset of a mysterious illness. What will her diagnosis be? And back at Camp Zoe, will Taylor leave the team to strike out on her own? Will Brad's dog be the ultimate in puppy presentation after his haircut/groom? And where the f is superhero Rodger to save the day? Tune in next week to find out!

THSI JUST IN: CHANEL SPRING 2004 DRESS

Ok, ok we know. Metallics are everywhere. And we do mean everywhere. It was the single most revived trend for Spring 2010. Every music maven rocked a metallic look at the VMA's last Sunday night (including Pink and Shakira who showed up sporting the same Balmain strapless chain-encusted mini. Gasp.). These days, you can't attend an art opening or movie premiere without knocking into some bright and shiny thing.

And we get it. After a year of saving and being smart and safe and holding back due to the recession, it only makes sense that fashionista want a little dguge, a little bling, a little excess. But the trend itself has become a little well, excessive. I mean whoever thought the day would come when fashion rags would announce that SILVER was the new black?

That said we've been hunting through our racks trying to come up with something anti-trend or at least fashion forward. For example, next spring we're fairly certain that tides will change and yellow will be the new black and so we looked for something marigold to throw into the mix. But when we spied this metallic Chanel dress, we knoew we post it up. Featuring signature Chanel hallmarks such as boucle trim and 20s tennis inspires styling, this baby is super chic and stylish and frankly, depending upon how you styled it, could be worn in any season. I guess that's the appeal of Chanel. What can we say. Frankly, good design never goes out of style.

*Chanel Spring 2004 metallic deco dress. In a size 36 and in mint condition. Priced at $945.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: J. MENDEL

Designer Spotlight: J. Mendel
G is for Gilles. G is for Genius. With a capital G. We've gone totally gaga for Gilles. Heir apparent to the formidable french furier, Gilles challenged traditionally held beliefs that fur was weighty and only for outerwear when he took over eains of the brand. Gilles' approah to fur was to treat skins like fabric--showcasing instead their delicate and ethereal qualities.
In 2003, the fifth generation Mendel launched a ready-to-wear collection. Gilles applied his sylph-like styling to the garments included in the line, which also included, bien sur, fur trim. In the same year, the CFDA came knocking. and we're so glad they did. Mendel's collections are always hallmarked by a consistent fluidity in deisgn and showmanship. His ethereal gowns, while always ahead of trend, manage to stand the tests of time as well. not an easy feat to master . . .

*J. Mendel floral printed silk gown. In a size 6, NWT and originally retailed for $3800. Priced at $800.

**J. Mendel peach silk gown with golden satin trim. I a size 6, NWT and originally retailed for $2600. Priced at $700.

***J. Mendel dusty rose silk dress with floral appliqué. In a size 6, NWT and originally retailed for $4200. Priced at $875

FRESH AND EASY!

You know what? We're over it. Through. It seems as if everywhere you look, rather than focus on innovations in technique and craft, designers are leaning too heavily upon embellishments. sice when did notions and trim become acceptable crutches to bear? and look, we love a little bling as much as the next girl, these days you can't swing a Fendi purse without hitting some girl in a metallic mini and an ankle bootie. Sheesh.
So, we're taking it back to basics. Back to the poached egg of clothing cuisine: the little black dress. Remember how effortlessly chic Sophia coppola was on the red carpet in Alaia? she outshown actresses gussying it up in floor length gem encrusted gowns fo' sho.
It goes without saying that the LBD is one of the top 5 must haves in every gal's closet(LBD, trench, crisp white button down shirt, black patent leather heels, pencil skirt) and this season, we think it's your best investment as well.
*Barney's black silk gathered LBD. In a size 6, NWT and retailed for $695. Priced at $275.
**Lanvin gathering black matte silk LBD. Approximately a size 4/6 and priced at $525.

ROMPER STOMPER!

We adore overalls. First seen in the late 18th century, overalls were originally protective garb meant to cover proper pants and trousers--i.e. to go over-all (nudge nudge). through the centuries overalls have maintained their utilitarian design, often employed for manual labor and in the armed services. during WWII, it was Rosie the Riveter who really rocked her overalls, blending sex appeal with a tough inner mechanic. These days overall can run the gamut of operations, from pairs with military flair to pieces meant perhaps only to be in the bedroom.
*&** Ghita sheer silk overalls. In mint condition. Priced at $270 each.
***Yohji Yamamoto green military overalls. In mint condition. Priced at $400.

CUFF 'EM, OFFICER!

I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number of carats in a diamond. ~Mae West

We couldn't agree more. Nothing is as boring as counting calories and a girl's worst accessory is the scale. (Seriously, at dinner the other night, we spied some Chanel clad celebutante remove a scale from her 2.55 and weigh a grilled chicken breast. So not sexy.)

It goes without saying that in leaner times, its fun to celebrate excess where you can. And in an ever rotating merri-go-round of trends, seasons and designers--costume jewelry is the way to add a little zhudje, a little sparkle and a little sass to any outfit.

We've posted before about baubles we baubles we believe are absolute neccessities: cocktail rings, breastplate necklaces, layered thin chains--and we'd like to add massive metal cuffs to the must-have mix. Case in point: uberstylist Rachel Zoe catalogued an oversized Chanel gold cuff on her list of six prized pieces of jewelry in her style script Style A to Zoe.

A cuff can rough-up any demure outfit. Likewise, when placed at the upper portion of the arm, a cuff can also add a grecian elegance to any long gown. With larger pieces of jewelry of course, it's best to make sure that they simultaneously complement your outfit and make some style statement on their own. No need to have your gems and your gowns competing for attention . . .

*Bottega Veneta silver metal cuff. In mint condition. Priced at $850.
**Designer brass metal bulb cuff and ring set. In excellent condition (missing one stone on the cuff--see photo). Priced at $600

****&*****Designer starburst deco metal cuffs. In mint condition. Priced at $170 each.
******Designer geometric lacquered metal cuffs. In mint condition. Priced at $140.

TREND: VELVET

Forget wool, forget cashmere--this fall we're all about velvet. There's something so dark and decadent about this plush luxurious fabric. It fits perfectly into the chic czarina trend we spied skulking down winter runways. We think the velvet item to sport come blustery October days is a velvet jacket. We'd pair it with something floral, whispy and short in rich earth hued tones, with black thick stockings and a crocheted cap for a look that's as cool as Karenina can be.
*YSL Black Velvet Blazer. In a size 38 and in mint condition. Priced at $615.
**YSL Teal Velvet Blazer. In a size 44 and in mint condition. Priced at $615.
***Gucci Jade Velvet Motorcycle Jacket. In a size 44 and in mint condition. Priced at $400.
****Stella McCarthy Maroon Velvet Blazer. In a size small and priced at $270.

OUR NEW FASHION BIBLE!

Andrew Harmon, Erin Weinger and Emili Vesilind, co-editors of Style Section LA

We just had to blog about our favorite new online fashion rag: http://www.stylesectionla.com/
Helmed by two former LA TIMES staffers plus a DNR ex-pat, this website is an online treasure trove of all things secret, in-the-know and stylish on the left coast, specfically in our fair city. For their first issue, SSLA featured some of our favorite LA notables including Ryan Heffington, Kimberly Ovitz, and Jackie Tohn and where you may find them. According to SSLA, its all happening at The Falcon.
Lots of luck, SSLA! WE ADORE YOU!

RING-A-DING-DING!

Oh , jewelry . . . you complete me. As every gal knows, what makes an outfit is how you finish it off. This autumn, we're arguing against layering--it weighs a girl down. Rather than stack a million bracelets on your arms or drape a thousand necklaces around your decollétage, we're suggesting selecting one statement making piece, such as a cocktail ring. We know, we know . . . you've already head us wax poetic about the joys of a cocktail ring, but ladies, if ain't broke . . .
*Assorted cocktail rings, Kenneth Jay Lane, from $90-$140. For further information or to purchase, please contact: lizzy@decadestwo.com
