OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW!

We're so excited to see that the trailblazing lady of the HOPE campaign has brought her sense of savvy to the red carpet as well. It's clearly a revamped administration and there's no reason to continue to don the stuffy frocks of yesteryear. Rather, Mme. Obama spotted the innovative designers of tomorrow but wore their wear today. Well, Tuesday . . .

INSPIRATION: MADE IN USA

Over the weekend, we went incognito a showing of Made In USA. As we watched Anna Karina skulk about the screen clad in a wig and trench coat, it occured to us that every stylish gal needs a terrific trench for the upcoming transition from Winter to Spring. And the eve of the inauguration, transitioning with style, seems to be a patriotic act, to say the least!

*Mike and Chris Trench Coat. In a size small and in next-to-new condition. Priced at $350

**Louis Vuitton Belted Trench with Pleated Drop Waist. In a size 38 and in next-to-new condition. Priced at $950
***Gucci Trench Coat. In a size 42 and in next-to-new condition. priced at $500

TREND: FIRST LADY FASHION

In honor of tomorrow's inauguration, we've gone back through the years and picked some pieces inspired by the wonderful women of the White House.

For further information or to purchase any of the items below, please contact: lizzy@decadestwo.comWe've lovedy-dove this Lanvin piece and we're pretty sure Helen Herron Taft would have loved it too! This fabulous frock sports all of the delicate touches of the Victorian age but the black over navy color palette also suggests that the gal who wears is no shrinking violet. Just like Mrs. Taft herself--who was the first woman to ride alongside her husband on Inauguration Day and even though her betrothed was a Dry, Mrs. Taft continued to cocktail.
Below: Lanvin Navy Dress with Black Mesh Overlay and Grosgrain Belt. From the Winter 2006 Collection. Approximately a size 38. Priced at $1200.

In 1931, Grace Anna Kling Coolidge was voted one of the 12 Greatest Living women. If we had to make a list of the 12 greatest living ensembles, no doubt this Chanel set would pass Grace's muster. Accented with deco details from Coolidges's era, this Chanel combination is sure to be seen on the elegant-elect.
Chanel Navy Two-Piece Ensemble with Signature Button-Front Closures. From the Spring 2008 Collection. In a size 40 and in next-to-new condition. Priced at $1800.

We applaud Betty Ford's commitment to color and so have selected this little number from Matthew Williamson. Accented with chinoiserie-inspired beading, this dazzling dress is the epitome of the joire-de-vivre for which Madame Ford was known.
Matthew Williamson Metallic Blue Beaded Dress. In a size 6. New with tags. Originally retailed for $3000 and priced at $1200.

Nothing says 60s elegance quite like Jacqueline Kennedy. The lady had a style which even today is basically untouchable. But if anyone comes close, its Proenza Schouler. We've selected a two-piece outfit that is constructed with hallmarks of 60s geographic design but is still feminie and delciate, much like Mlle. Bouvier herself.
Proenza Schouler White Sheer Two Piece Shift with Overlay. In a size 4. New with Tags and retailed for $2150. Priced at $700.

We couldn't more more excited for tomorrow--when Michele Obama and co. take the White house and the Country by storm. A more refined, intelligent, poised and compassionate lady of the house, we could not imagine. We chose the piece below, because like Mme. Obama, this Giambattista Valli dress is modern yet modest, intricate and intelligent, feminine and fabulous. VIVE MICHELLE!
Giambattista Valli Cream Color Tiered Shift. In a size 42. New with Tags. Originally priced at $5125 and priced at $1500.

THIS JUST IN: Chanel Lucite Necklace

Every so-often a piece comes in that is sooooooooo chic, I snatch it away from those girls downstairs and post it on the blog, before they can say "Slow your roll down, Mary!" It's true--I'm always looking out for my online ladies-wink.

As we all know, accessories make or break a look. How many women have become famous due to rubber bracelet or a teacup chihuahua? So, I was killing myself looking for the perfect piece to complement your garments--a collection staple if you will, instead of some bling 'n bauble. And then, I spied this choker from Chanel. And the heavens parted and the angels sang and everything was right once more in the D2 blogosphere. Whew.

*Chanel amber lucite baroque choker with blue beaded detailing. In mint condition. Box included. Priced at $700.

R.I.P. TRACEY ROSS

Sunset Blvd. has lost another star. Sadly, Tracey Ross has shuttered her doors at the end of 2008. Ross's boutique was a Los Angeles fashion fixture--celebrity clients were often seen sipping a chai and chatting it up with Ross or getting a manicure in the back before browsing for fashion bounty. Reportedly, Jen Meyer met Tobey Maguire at the store and Kate Hudson picked her first Stella dress off of Ross's racks. For the past 18 years, the boutique stocked its shelves with serious high-end designers such as Thakoon, Stella McCartney and Anna sui alongside Left Coast lifestyle staples such as Asana-inspired accessories and Ross's own body butters and scrubs. Sunset Plaza just won't be the same without her. And neither will we.

TRENDS: FROM THE RED CARPET

Trends are cast from 2 places--the runways and the red carpet. Each award season, we see the magic percolating inside a designer's mind for their upcoming collections, draped across celebrity skin. At the Golden Globes, there were a lot of hints about what to expect come Spring, as far as we're concerned, the awards for favorite trends go to: Winter Whites, March Metallics, and Nouveau Deco.
Who says you have to wait until Memorial Day to wear white? Last night, the red carpet was a winter wonderland with one snow colored confection after another. So, this season, we say break out the blanco!

*Alaia white knit crochet dress. In a size 40. New with Tags. Originally retailed for $5225 and priced at $2100.

*Fendi white fur long vest with lace trim. In an Italian size 42 and in next-to-new condition. Priced at $1470.
Metallics were the metal winners this winter--both on the runways during Fashion Week and at last night's festivities. We understand completely--nothing helps a girl shine like a little sparkle.

*Lanvin Summer 2007 goldenbrocad cropped jacket with princess sleeves and beading at the neck. In a size 36 and in next-to-new condition. Priced at $600.

Designers borrowed art nouveau and deco inspiration from the roaring 20s twenties, employing crystalline architectural touches, as the vision of futuristic touches remains as streamlined today as it did just afterthe turn of the century.
