TREND: FIRST LADY FASHION

In honor of tomorrow's inauguration, we've gone back through the years and picked some pieces inspired by the wonderful women of the White House.

For further information or to purchase any of the items below, please contact: lizzy@decadestwo.comWe've lovedy-dove this Lanvin piece and we're pretty sure Helen Herron Taft would have loved it too! This fabulous frock sports all of the delicate touches of the Victorian age but the black over navy color palette also suggests that the gal who wears is no shrinking violet. Just like Mrs. Taft herself--who was the first woman to ride alongside her husband on Inauguration Day and even though her betrothed was a Dry, Mrs. Taft continued to cocktail.
Below: Lanvin Navy Dress with Black Mesh Overlay and Grosgrain Belt. From the Winter 2006 Collection. Approximately a size 38. Priced at $1200.

In 1931, Grace Anna Kling Coolidge was voted one of the 12 Greatest Living women. If we had to make a list of the 12 greatest living ensembles, no doubt this Chanel set would pass Grace's muster. Accented with deco details from Coolidges's era, this Chanel combination is sure to be seen on the elegant-elect.
Chanel Navy Two-Piece Ensemble with Signature Button-Front Closures. From the Spring 2008 Collection. In a size 40 and in next-to-new condition. Priced at $1800.

We applaud Betty Ford's commitment to color and so have selected this little number from Matthew Williamson. Accented with chinoiserie-inspired beading, this dazzling dress is the epitome of the joire-de-vivre for which Madame Ford was known.
Matthew Williamson Metallic Blue Beaded Dress. In a size 6. New with tags. Originally retailed for $3000 and priced at $1200.

Nothing says 60s elegance quite like Jacqueline Kennedy. The lady had a style which even today is basically untouchable. But if anyone comes close, its Proenza Schouler. We've selected a two-piece outfit that is constructed with hallmarks of 60s geographic design but is still feminie and delciate, much like Mlle. Bouvier herself.
Proenza Schouler White Sheer Two Piece Shift with Overlay. In a size 4. New with Tags and retailed for $2150. Priced at $700.

We couldn't more more excited for tomorrow--when Michele Obama and co. take the White house and the Country by storm. A more refined, intelligent, poised and compassionate lady of the house, we could not imagine. We chose the piece below, because like Mme. Obama, this Giambattista Valli dress is modern yet modest, intricate and intelligent, feminine and fabulous. VIVE MICHELLE!
Giambattista Valli Cream Color Tiered Shift. In a size 42. New with Tags. Originally priced at $5125 and priced at $1500.
