HOT HOT HEAT!

Yesterday's temperature was no freaking joke. The temperature rumored to hover around 113° in town. Oy vey. Managing to keep it cool when the heat ergister is off the charts is no easy feat. That's why we employed our sassy sales lady Mayasha Long to step in and style an outfit that won't have a girl melting on the 405 for our latest In Style guest post. Here's what she came up with.

Ever since I first saw Marlene Deitritch, I've been crazy about borrowed-from-the-boys suiting for girls. Marlene looked especially smoking in her luxe tux attire complete with top hat. Rather than go to Brooks Brothers to pick up a tuxe for myself, I've decided instead on this Sharon Wauchob jacket. complete with nipped in waist and metallic treated lapels, this jacket is the modern answer to deco-era androgeny.

Seems like there's always a reason to celebrate: President's Day, St. Patrick's Day, heck there's even a Flag Day. So we couldn't be more thrilled that fashion is finally getting its due. Next week marks the second annual Fashion Night Out. And as you guys know, we're such style supporters, that we just had to get in the mix. So, we've partnered up with two of our favorite fashion institutions: Racked LA, whose fashion coverage is a daily must-read on our web roll, and Hautelook--who hosts the most fabulous online private sales. My own personal style runs more towards a borrowed-from-the-boys aesthetic than frilly flounces, but there's just something about Alberta's Ferretti's feminine touch that I can't resist. Take this jazzy jacket for example. Crafted with grosgrain ribbon detailing, velvet trim, embroidery and black beading--the square shape of the beads, the neutral color palette and the military inspiration take this form-fitting jacket and make it sweet and light without seeming too girly girl. In fact, I could even rock it with my Ann D combat boots for a softer take on my avant-garde androgynous vision.

7000 yeatrs ago, when I happened across Full House on channel 11, I never-evah would have guessed that the twins playing Stephanie & DJ Tanner's littlest tv sis would wind up as fashion icons, photographed for their ensembles as well as thier DESIGNS. That's right, the dual stars behind Michelle Tanner have crafted several clothing lines, notably The Row and Elizabeth & James among them. In fact, one Olsen has eschewed acting completely to focus on design.
