Blue Ice occurs when falling snow lands on a glacier and has the misfortune of being compressed, becoming part of the large ice cube as it makes its way towards a body of water. Drag. Pretty to look at though. The color results from an overtone that the OH molecule creates when it absorbs light at the red portion of the visable light spectrum. Truman Capote first hosted his legendary "Black & White Ball" on November 28, 1966 in honor of Washington Post publisher, Katherine Graham. The gala was held in the Grand Ballroom of New York City's famed Plaza Hotel. It was considered from that season forward, one of, if not the social events of the year. Nicknamed, the "Versailles of the Sixties", the first Black & White ball boasted an impressive and eclectic guest list including Tallulah Bankhead, Lauren Bacall, and Capote's own elevator operator.
