As early as 1930, CoCo Chanel impugned all handbags without shoulder straps and began designing handbags for women that could be carried messenger style. In 1955, the over-the-shoulder style of handbag reached epic popularity amongst fans, when she instructed her leather designer, Albert Monnot, to attach a gold chain as strapping to the pocketbook. That first handbag, the 2.55, was subsequently named after it's date of conception. This limited edition model was reissued in 2005--5 decades after its debut, to celebrate the 2.55's 50th birthday. I can only hope I look so good at 50 . . .
Crafted in a black textured leather, this classic bag features seminal Chanel design--such as the quilted leather, gold chain shoulder straps, front flap, aged gold mademoiselle lock with logo engraving. Fully lined with maroon leather and stamped with CC logo, 2.55 & 2005 on the interior underside flap. Authenticity cards included. New with tags--never carried! Priced at $2350. SOLD
