DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: PACO RABANNE

Born on February 18th, 1934 in the Spanish Basque Country, Rabanne became fashion's enfant terrible in the 1960s, paving the way for designers such as John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. Rabanne began his career by designing jewelry for Givenchy, Dior and Balenciaga. He started his own fashion house in 1966, drawing on his experience as a jeweler for design and crafting inspiration and utilizing unconventional materials such as metal, paper and plastic. He designed costumes for the uber-moderne Jane Fonda flick Barbarella and outfitted Francoise Hardy. His designs are synonymous with 60s space-age pop and today, the label is still known for gorgeous geometric style. To showcase the label's signature look, we've picked this piece. Crafted with strands of beading layered over black paillettes, this top sports a gladiator inspired silver ring chainmail construction and is guaranteed to bring happiness and sex appeal to its wearer. Is this the beginning of the end of days? I mean, first Farrah, then Sky Saxon (you know you still break out that Seeds album with a glass of homemade almond milk), now Michael.


Michael and I have the same birthday and as a little girl, I used to send him birthday cards each year. Gus can sing every Michael song ever recorded. Jarred used to listen to "Don't stop 'til you get enough" at the roller rink as a tween. Billy has a tattoo of the Jackson 5 on his neck. Our lives have all been changed by Captain Eo. And in the words of Friedrich Neitzsche "The King of Pop is dead."

In our current economic climate, we find that our clients are still concerned with luxury. Perhaps now even more so.
