OK, it's not like we're tooting our own horns or anything, but the cutest mostest stylish gals in town work at D2. On the real. Nobody but nobody crafts an ensemble like Megan so check out our girl gracing the pages of our fair city's seminal paper, showing with her inimitable grace and style, how to kick out the jams. Now that's news that fit to print!

JUST IN STORE: CHANEL SPRING 2008 Dress & Jacket Ensemble

"Simplicity is the key to true elegance," once quipped Coco Chanel. Nothing could more true than for her signature jackets. Taking their somewhat boxy cues from a borrowed-from-the-boys suiting shape and style, Coco designed her wears for the "new breed" of woman. The jackets themselves were innovations at the time--created without traditional interfacing and crafted instead with silk lining quilted directly onto the fabric, resulting in lighter weight, easy breezy, beautiful cover-girl coat. So, to celebrate the grande dame's technological impetuousness, we're showcasing this boucle jacket and dress ensemble--replete with the sort of chicness of form and function for which Chanel has always been known.
Chanel Grey & Silver Boucle Dress & Jacket ensemble. In mint condition and in a size 38. From the Spring 2008 collection. Priced at $3500.

TREND: WHAT MAKES US BLUSH

One of our favorite trends for Spring has been the re-appearance of nudes and blushes. And frankly, what goes together more than those two? So we pulled a few of our favorite nude skin (tee hee) handbags along with a de-gorgeous Missoni coat, all of which draw the bottom line of chicness. As far these neutrals are concerned, we couldn't be any more biased.

**Zac Posen pleated leather handbag. Priced at $850.

***Zac posen large leather tote handbag. Priced at $750.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: MISSONI

-The Missoni Clan

It seems that every time we reach into our closet these days, we're pulling something Missoni to start our look. Nothing but nothing works better for these bright and blustery pre-Spring days, than pieces from the iconic Italian knitwear company. Formed in 1953, by husband and wife team Ottavio & Rosita Missoni and championed by US VOGUE's Diana Vreeland for their geomtric squiggle knits, the Missoni label catapulted to cult-like status in 1967 when the duo sent models in gossamer lame' blouses down the runways sans brassieres at their show in the Pitti Palace. 40 years later, the label still stands for a seamless mix of style and sexiness. In 1998, the couple's daughter Angela took over the direction of the brand, while Rosita and Ottavio still design and develop Missoni home and textile projects. Under their tutelage, Missoni, along with the Rezidor Hotel Group, is slated to open 30 Missoni boutique hotels by 2012, with outposts in Kuwait, Edinburgh, London, Paris, France, Miami and Kiev.

Picture it: a room entirely designed in signature Missoni block colors and geometric graphics. Missoni sheets, Missoni towels, Missoni hangers, Missoni shoe trees . . . I mean, have you ever heard of anything so chic in all your life? Us neither. Until the first one opens its doors, we'll just have to be content with bringing Italian modernism to our closets.

OSCAR FASHION: And the award goes to . . .

Last night, we were glued to the small screen for the 81st Oscars. While the ceremony left us a bit confused (no movie clips plus musical numbers . . . hmmm), the fashion from the evening left no note unsung. We always review the red carpet after an event to gather together trends which we can then mix into our day to day wardrobe and below, you'll see how we take an element and let it run, rather try to reconfigure an entire look.

LET'S HAVE A COCKTAIL!

Coco Chanel, first introduced costume jewelry into her collections in the 1920s as a way of combining the brashness of mass-production with the originality of art and design. Madame Chanel also added in costume jewels to as a measure of completing the ensemble, in an perfect blend of high-low style, that we're sure would even make Kate Moss green with envy. In times like these, we often find that turn to this type of mixing-and-matching which turns frugality from a four letter word into the most fashionable definition in the dictionary.

So, we've selected a few of our favorite cocktail rings as the pieces to post for your viewing pleasure. Nothing adds decadence to an outfit like a gigantic ring--preferably one that is crafted with architecural metallic elements accented with oranic stones and shapes, kind of like Moby Dick meets The Fountainhead. Besides, we like anything that's meant to be worn with a whiskey sour in tow.

*Yves Saint Laurent golden metal art deco cocktail ring with blue gems and lacquered detail. Priced at $290

**Yves Saint Laurent golden metal art modern cocktail ring with jade stones. Priced at $350

***Kenneth Jay Lane retro lucite cocktail ring with golden metal band and trim. Priced at $150.

NOM DE PLUME!

We adore feathers. Adore, adore, adore! I mean, where would we be without them? Feathers decorate our fetching arrows, are our preferred writing implement (what says chic more than a quill dipped in indigo ink, we beg of you . . .), and often hang from our ears while whizzing around the roller rink. Besides, we are known all over this city for being the first at a party to shake our tailfeather! So, what better to bust-a-move in than a Givenchy ombre feather dress with black leather straps? Top your ensemble off with an Moo Moo ostritch feather mini handbag and you're good to go! Don't be suprised if your girlfriends start trying to hawk your look. Let 'em have a gander at it. After all, birds of a feather, flock together . . .

Valentine's Day Ball!

Valentine's Day is quickly upon us and we couldn't be more thrilled. Usually the encroaching holiday has us sucking back Jameson's while arranging bouquets of black roses and listening to Johnny Cash, but not this year. We've been shot in the heart and have it big time for Nina Lucas, who's throwing a holiday ball here in town! This year single's mingle at The First Annual Winter ball @ the Alexandria Hotel. The event has no strict Valentine's day theme, so singles are welcome (and don't worry--you might not leave that way)!

The extravaganza has a Marie Antoinette costume leitmotif  (a place perhaps to wear your new Chanel frocks from the Hautelook sale!) and features among many amazing acts Adele Jacques with John Gold, DJ Justin Miller, treats from Little Flower Company and Audrey Bernstein of www.ohaudrey.com, and our favorite act at any party--an open bar. All proceeds go to 826LA, which sponsors literacy intiatives for kids. And that's some love we can really get behind.

Tickets are $30 in advance/$40 at the door
Lots of love,
